Deirdre Rosenfeld was born in November 1974. She moved around a lot as a young girl, starting in New York and then settling in Ankeny, Iowa, where she attended junior high and high school. Deirdre was the middle child whose mom spent a lot of time and energy encouraging her children to learn and achieve academically. She has an older brother and younger sister.
While in school Deirdre never dated, but it was not a big deal to her. She was class president and in band and always had many friends. After graduating from high school she attended Cornell College in Iowa. She did not identify as lesbian until she got to college where she found many empowering student, faculty, and staff role models. Although she was nervous to tell her parents about her sexuality, afraid of their possible rejection, she did come out as a lesbian in her mid-20s.
Today Deirdre works at the Women’s Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato. She helps female and male college students celebrate or survive new experiences and everyday issues. She shares her home with two cats and her life with friends and family. Deirdre is a very vibrant, caring, and outgoing person who is a blast to have a conversation with.
