Genevieve's Group Reflections

We all loved doing this project and we had fun while doing it. We all have learned why it is so important to know the stories of those that have come before us, not only our own family, but other women as well. We are able to see the struggles and hurdles that they had to endure so that we could be where we are today. It taught us so much about growing up in the 1920s and 1930s. We really enjoyed getting to meet Genevieve and it was also very interesting to hear about some of her stories, especially about how difficult it was for her to grow up in the depression years.  It was also very fun because a lot of the stories she told were very humorous and we were able to get quite a few laughs from them.  We all think that every young person our age should find someone that grew up in the same era as Genevieve and just sit down and talk with that person.  Listening to the way she grew up really made us feel thankful for everything that we have today, and we think it is important for everyone our age to have this appreciation.  We grew up in a time period where the economy was good, and sex education was taught in school.  She gave us insight on what it was like to grow up without money or education about sex.  It was a wonderful experience to sit down with her for the interview and dinner afterwards.  She's an amazing woman. As you can see, we all learned to appreciate the elderly woman in our lives and the experiences that they have gone through. Doing this project had given us all an insight on how our lives are so different than those back in the 30s. We all believe that this project was well worth the time and effort put into it and we would all do it again if given the chance.
