A vibrant, caring, and outspoken woman, Jan Julik Ebert was born on September 12, 1927 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Raised by her immigrant Polish parents Anthony and Aniela Julik, she is one of ten children: five daughters and five sons. Her father was a farmer with a fourth grade education, and her mother was the homemaker with an eighth grade education. They moved in 1940 as a family to a farm in Cambridge, Minnesota. During the Great Depression, they lost the farm. Growing up with Polish parents, Jan was raised saying her prayers in her parents’ native language. Although she considers herself Polish, speaking Polish is not a skill that she can claim.

Growing up, Jan helped a lot on the family farm. She and her sisters enjoyed non-traditional girls’ sports, like softball, in their spare time. Although her parents put emphasis on education, her education only extends to a high school diploma. After marrying Ewald “Bud” Ebert, she devoted her time to taking care of her children and became a homemaker, or “domestic goddess,” as Jan calls it. They raised six successful children, including Mark, who is disabled. As the United States engaged in the Korean War and the Vietnam War, Jan became interested in politics and demonstrated in a few antiwar rallies.

Today, Jan has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. As a Catholic, she is very active in her church and does volunteer work. In her spare time, she enjoys baking and taking trips with her sister to the casino. Jan resides today in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
