Judy Del Ano

Judy's Pictures

Judy Henderson was born in Savannah, Georgia, in 1947 to Jerome Del Ano and Flossie Mae Childs. Judy is one of five children and also has a twin named Julius. In fact they are not the only set of twins; they also have two sisters, Juanita and Jessica, who were born in 1952. Her father, Jerome, had a life calling as a minister, while her mother, Flossie, was a housewife caring and tending to five children, household chores, and being the traditional wife. At the young age of four, Judy was moved with her two brothers to Kentucky, where they lived until 1952, and then moved to St. Paul, Minnesota. Minnesota would be considered home from that point on, as they moved three more times in the Twin Cities area before settling down in Burnsville. As a child, Judy was very involved with her church upbringing, without much choice. Her weekends were dedicated to working on her music, school ,and church, and as a student she excelled in academics. Aside from her close family upbringing, she also enjoyed spending free with her best friend MaryAnn. Growing up, one of Judy's desires and dreams was to be free to do what she wanted and to have the privilege of voting and marching with Martin Luther King to support "the dream", which many of her ancestors fought for. Throughout her life, her worst fear was that of death and that she wouldn't be able to finish her work and pass along her hopes, dreams, aspirations, and dedications through music and teaching. She knew that she wanted to become a teacher at a very young age as she loved to work with children and to see them finally "get it." Today, Judy is happily married, has three daughters, many grandchildren, and is (still) teaching history at Burnsville High School.
