Julie’s Group Reflections

This project has really opened our eyes to the outside world and made us realize many differences and similarities in growing up. We had an opportunity to see how other women have grown throughout the years in comparison to how we grew up today.

In the process of making our oral history project we encountered many obstacles while learning many things along the way. We found that recording oral history is a very important tool in capturing the past. By interviewing Julie Hammett we were able to learn about growing up in a small town thirty years ago. We learned how they were able to make their own fun without having many options to decide from.

It was hard for our group to imagine some of the things Julie went through in her life while growing up, because back then they had it much harder than we do now. Julie had to learn how to manage her own family while still enjoying her life at the same time. It was also hard for us to imagine starting a family at such a young age, like she did. After reflecting on Julie’s stories we were very thankful for the life we have today and everything we have. It seemed like back then Julie had to work for a lot of the things she wanted in life, while today it comes a lot easier to us.

It was very interesting to learn about Julie’s life so far, but there is still so much life to live for her, due to her young age. It would be interesting to follow up on her in twenty years and see how her life has changed and to see if she has accomplished everything she wanted to in her life.
