We as a group feel that it is essential to record oral history to preserve the past, so that future generations, as well as current ones, can learn what happened in the past to influence the present. Because of this we were very excited to hear what Sister Katherine Mattern had to say about growing up as a girl in Minnesota. As a School Sister of Notre Dame, Sister Katherine has played an important role in the lives of the people of Mankato by choosing to be a sister and serving her community for so many years. We felt that it is important to note that women of the twentieth century have helped to influence the future into what it is today. By looking at the role of women in the past we feel that we can have a better understanding of how we can influence our future generations in a positive way. Sister Katherine was the perfect pick for this project and we hope that she will be an influential addition to the website. By hearing Sister Katherine's coming of age story we also realized how influential family and our faith can be to who we end up becoming.
