Marguerite’s Group Reflections

The interview conducted with Marguerite Cavett was a wonderful experience. We have learned a lot about Marguerite’s coming of age experiences and in the process learned about our group members, while having fun putting this project together. When the project started we all had many ideas of wonderful and interesting women to interview. Many women were uncomfortable with the idea of exposing their personal information in a very public way. Marguerite became our main interest for the project, because she had many interesting and unique experience of her childhood. She will now make our interview stand out from the past interviews on the web site.

The group was surprised to see that it was difficult to find a volunteer for the project; we would have believed many women would not mind talking about themselves. But when we realized the age range we wanted to interview, it was clear that women from this time were not always public about their lives. When we all arrived at Marguerite’s house for the interview, we had the opportunity to meet her husband and talk a little about ourselves. She impressed the group with her funny and outgoing personality; we seemed to be laughing through the entire interview. We felt comfortable and invited in her home and being among her family. The group was pleased that the interview went very well, and that we had filmed an hour worth of footage. The interview did not stop when the tape ran out. The group was able to stay and socialize with Marguerite and her family. Marguerite’s story of her days coming of age was a wonderful experience. We are thankful that she was willing to share it with
