Rima’s Group Reflections

This project was a good experience for each of our group members. Our group wasn't sure who we wanted to interview at first, but we knew we wanted to interview someone who grew up in another culture so we could learn from them. In the end we decided to interview Rima because she had an interesting background and we thought we could learn a lot from her. Not all of us were present for her interview but we all enjoyed watching it; even though she was hard to understand at some parts, we all agreed it was interesting and we learned some new things from her.

The first thing we learned was that she grew up in a family and city where women were treated equal. From her viewpoint, women are treated equal in Lithuania, whether it’s in the work place or at home. Rima’s experience of growing up in an equal environment taught us how happy people can be in an environment like that. An example of this was her comment about how men help women with things like taking the groceries to their car or opening a door for them. Another thing we learned is how the education system is different in Lithuania compared to the U.S. In Lithuania the teacher teaches the students until they graduate, compared to the U.S. where we have a new teacher every grade. Rima was a math teacher and a principal in Lithuania and talked about how she enjoyed getting to know the students and how they were all really close.

We found that Lithuania’s way of life is something that we could all learn from and hope that you learn something from this as well.
