Our group had a wonderful experience during our interview with Abe. We had the ability to hear her experiences during her coming of age, and were able to compare and contrast them with our own. It was fun for us to see what has changed for girls growing up in Minnesota, and what is still the same. Abe’s stories about her friends and her close relationship with and admiration for her mother were things that we could relate to. However, it was interesting to see that she had very little education about sex and puberty. Also, she never planned on going to college or finding a career; she always assumed she would get married and be a mother. These are things that we weren’t as exposed to while growing up.
Abe’s wonderful recollection and charming personality made our project very simple and beneficial. We enjoyed listening to each one of her stories and learning about her childhood in Minnesota, and we are grateful that we had this opportunity to get to know her. Our experience with her will never be forgotten, and we are thankful that we had the opportunity to interview her for this project.
