Saswati Sarkar was born in Calcutta, India, on July 17, 1981. Saswati’s nationality/ethnicity is mostly of Asian and Indian descent. She is the oldest of three children born to Shyamal Sarkar and Kalyani Sarkar. Her father was born in Bangladesh on November 14, 1944, and her mother was born on May 2, 1951, in Calcutta. Both her parents work with the Indian government. Until Saswati was twenty-three years old, she lived in Calcutta.

Saswati received her primary education at an all girls' school in Calcutta. Saswati went on to obtain a bachelors and masters degree in Philosophy from Jadavpur University in India.

In August of 2005, Saswati decided to move from Calcutta to the United States. Her decision to come to the United States to study was based on the level of education she could receive at a U.S. college. Her ultimate decision to pick Mankato, Minnesota was based on the quality of education and other factors. Looking at several colleges, Saswati decided that Minnesota State University, Mankato was the most affordable.

Saswati currently resides in Mankato, Minnesota and is attending Minnesota State University, where she is working on completing a masters degree in Women’s Studies. When Saswati finds time, she enjoys reading books, surfing the internet, shopping online, chatting with friends, and watching television. She also enjoys traveling and trying new cuisines with friends.
