We all felt that the interview process was a fun and enlightening experience. While interviewing Shirley, we felt that we were connected to the distant past, if only for a little while. She had several interesting stories and comments to share with us, including where she was for John F. Kennedy’s assassination and the variations between her generation and ours.
We all felt special to be in the presence of someone who is so wise and has seen so many things throughout her lifetime. We were surprised by the many hardships that Shirley experienced throughout her life, and we were touched by her continuing optimism and love for life.
We all felt that this project was very valuable because of the vastly different lifestyle that Shirley shared with us. We gained a new perspective and also learned to appreciate the fine things we have today, which Shirley could not have dreamed of in the past. It was an honor and a privilege to have her share her story with us, and we thank her sincerely.
