Graduate Program in English as a Second Language (ESL) & Graduate Licensure

Teachers who hold licensure in another teaching area may add an ESL endorsement by completing the ESL licensure program at either the undergraduate or the graduate level.  The licensure courses at the graduate level are ENG 689: Studies in English Linguistics, MODL 570, ML 571, ENG 582, ENG 583, ENG 585.  Teachers may be required to take MODL 672: TESL Practicum and some additional student teaching.

Most graduate work in TESL may be applied towards the MA in English TESL track.  Please consult with the TESL faculty when you plan your schedule, if you plan to complete both licensure and the MA program.

For information about graduate degrees in ESL please see the current Graduate Bulletin

Questions about MSU's TESL programs can be directed to Dr. Esther Smidt at esther.smidt@mnsu.edu
