Concert Wind Ensemble (CWE) is an auditioned ensemble comprised of 45-50 undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a diverse array of majors. The ensemble is designed for the professionally minded performer and music educator and requires a high level of discipline from its members. Throughout the school year, the ensemble members perform a broad scope of large and small ensemble music written for wind, percussion, string and vocal instruments. Our primary goal is to work together to make great music for the ensemble and the audience.
The group rehearses fifty minutes, four times each week with individual sectionals taking place outside of rehearsal. Each year the ensemble performs 4-6 concerts on and off campus. Tours are generally in Minnesota and the surrounding states to perform side-by-side concerts with high school musicians but national and international travel is also included. In the spring of 2013, the CWE was selected to perform in Chicago at the Grainger Wind Band Festival. In June 2014, of the CWE and the University of Wisconsin, River Falls Symphony Band embarked on a 10-day performance tour in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona, Spain. We are looking forward to traveling to the Czech Republic in May 2016!
