For some employees, Veteran's Day is holiday

Students will have classes Nov. 11

2009-10-23

Veteran’s Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, is an observed holiday for a variety of classified employees at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The following employees will not be scheduled to work Nov. 11:

  • AFSCME
  • Commissioner’s Plan
  • MAPE
  • MMA

Because the holiday falls on a payroll period, timesheets are required prior to that week.  Follow these steps to complete timesheets:

  • AFSCME, Commissioner’s Plan, MAPE, MMA
    •  Record hours in the ‘Holiday Taken’ line of Nov. 11 timesheet.
    •  If a supervisor deems it essential for one to work, record hours worked in the ‘Holiday Worked’ line on the timesheet.
  • Managerial Plan, MGEC, MNA:
    •  For those who work, record hours under ‘Regular Hours Worked’ on the timesheet, and a substitute/alternate holiday will show up on the Dec. 4 pay stub.  The alternate holiday will appear in the earnings section as “Work No Pay#” with a ‘1’ under the ‘Hours’ column. The ‘1’ indicates one day for the alternate holiday, not one hour.
  • ASF and Administrators
    • For those who work, record hours in the ‘Holiday Worked’ line on the timesheet and a substitute/alternate holiday will show up in the leave balances when they are e-mailed out.
    •  For those who don’t work the entire day, record hours in the ‘Holiday Taken’ line of the timesheet.

Human Resources will track the use of substitute/alternate holidays and toward the end of this fiscal year, notify individuals who have not used them. Alternate holidays must be used by June, 30, 2010 or they will be forfeited.

All other employees will have a regular work day and students’ classes will still be in session.
