Minnesota State Mankato’s Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, along with several area high school choirs, will present an evening of choral music Thursday, Nov. 5.
The concert, by the Department of Music, will be at 7:30 p.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 105 North Fifth St. General admission is $9; tickets for children, K-12 students and Minnesota State Mankato students with a valid MavCard are $6.
The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, directed by David Dickau, will perform with invited high school choirs from Mankato East, Blue Earth Area Schools, St. Clair, Litchfield, Maple River, New Ulm and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown.
Dickau, a nationally renowned choral conductor and composer, has served as Minnesota State Mankato music faculty member and director of choral activities since 1991. He recently received the university’s Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award.
His published compositions appear in a number of catalogues, and he has composed pieces on commission for choral festivals, colleges, universities, community choirs, churches and schools throughout the world.
His “Dresden Canticles,” premiered in Leipzig, Dresden and Prague in 1998, was composed in honor of the rebuilding of the Frauenkirche in Dresden, Germany. “View from the Air” was commissioned by the Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation in honor of the 70th anniversary of Lindbergh’s historic trans-Atlantic flight.
