Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre & Dance News Release, 6-15-2012

The Minnesota State University, Mankato Department of Theatre & Dance continues its 46th annual Highland Summer Theatre season with "God of Carnage," presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, June 26-30, in the Andreas Theatre of the Earley Center for Performing Arts. It is sponsored by the Minnesota State Mankato TRIO Programs.

“God of Carnage,” the 2009 Tony Award winner for Best Play by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton, is an explosive comedic drama exploring the dynamics of two couples that meet over drinks to discuss an episode of bullying perpetrated by the child of one set of beleaguered parents. The more they talk, however, the more they drop the facade of manners and show their true feelings.

Department Chair Paul J. Hustoles directs “God of Carnage” with a four-person cast that includes 2011 BFA Musical Theatre graduate Megan Volkman-Wilson, who appeared last summer in “Almost, Maine,” as Miss Peacock in “Clue: The Musical” and as Miss Hannigan in “Annie.” The show also features Dustin Guy Jackson, who appeared as I.R.S. agent Floyd Spinner in the summer opener, “Love, Sex, and the I.R.S.,” Emily Jansen of St. Peter, who played Christmas Eve in the second summer show, “Avenue Q,” and Rusty Ruth, a second-year MFA Directing candidate who is making his Minnesota State Mankato acting debut.

Tickets for “God of Carnage” are $16 regular, $14 discounted and $11 for Minnesota State Mankato students with a current MavCard. They may be purchased online at MSUTheatre.com or by calling or stopping by the Theatre & Dance Box Office from 4-6 p.m., Monday-Friday. Call 507-389-6661.
