Minnesota State Mankato to Observe Constitution Day

Sept. 17 with Panel Discussion, Period Actors
Mankato, Minn. — Period actors will distribute constitutional scrolls and the Maverick Forensics Team will hold a debate during Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Constitution Day observance Monday, Sept. 17.
The discussion, featuring Maggie Pence and Katie Gottwalt for Minnesota State Mankato’s award-winning speech and debate team under the guidance of Leah White and James Dimock (Communication Studies), will be in Ostrander Auditorium from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the public, and participants will receive a free copy of the Constitution as well as refreshments.

Pence and Gottwalt will debate health care in the context of our Constitution. Pence, a junior from Aberdeen, S.D., is a current member of the Maverick forensics team, while Gottwalt, a graduate of the Minnesota State Mankato nursing program, is a former Maverick forensics team member.

Monday at noon, two actors from the Department of Theatre and Dance – dressed as George Washington and James Madison – will distribute scrolls representing the Preamble to the Constitution in Centennial Student Union.
Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution 225 years ago, on Sept. 17, 1787. More information about the day is at http://www.constitutionday.com/.
