Acclaimed artist Wing Young Huie to give free public workshop.
Mankato, Minn. – Renowned photographer Wing Young Huie will give a free public workshop, reception, and presentation on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Centennial Student Union.
The event, titled “Calling Minnesota Home: Cultural Diversity Through the Lens of Wing Young Huie,” is presented by the Minnesota State Mankato College of Arts and Humanities and Honors Program.
Wing will conduct a workshop, “On Being Hyphenated: Exploring Asian American Experience,” from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Centennial Student Union 201. A reception in CSU 253 will be held at 6 p.m. and a presentation by Wing in the same room will follow at 7 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
Wing has received international acclaim for his photographic studies of cultural diversity and socioeconomic realities in American society. Focusing primarily on the Lake Street and University Avenue neighborhoods of the Twin Cities, his work reflects the lives of people in the midst of some of the most diverse concentrations of international immigrants in the country. His sessions will appeal to anyone interested in photography, art, cultural diversity, or the challenges of building community.
Wing’s work has been exhibited across the United States and numerous other nations, including several major exhibitions in China. Born and raised in Duluth, Wing is the only American-born member of his Chinese family. The Star Tribune in Minneapolis hailed his “Lake Street USA” as one of 25 Great Minnesota Books.
