Author of grief memoir appearing at Women and Spirituality Conference
Amy Lyons appearing at Women and Spirituality Conference
Mankato Free Press, 10-11-12
MANKATO — Minnesota author Amy Lyon’s memoir began with a mother’s worst nightmare: The loss of her child to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in 2007.
“ This book started as a journal,” said Lyon. “ I’ve always written down my thoughts and feelings as a way to help me process what’s going on. As I reread some of the entries, I thought, ‘ Wow, there are some amazing stories here. This could really help people.’” Lyon will visit Minnesota State University on Saturday and Sunday during the Women and Spirituality Conference. She’ll be signing her book, “ Only God Knows Why: A Mother’s Memoir of Death and Rebirth,” which was published by Chalice Press in September. Lyon will have books available in the Schellberg Gym ( Highland Center North building) where there will be 70 vendors and exhibitors as part of the Women and Spirituality Conference.
Admission to the exhibitor booth area is free and open to the public, and visitors can park in Parking Lot 5 or 6 for easy access.
New York Times bestselling author Richard Paul Evans says, “’Only God Knows Why’ provides an incredible story of transformation rising out of an unthinkable tragedy.”
Dan Collison, author of “Church in Translation,” calls “Only God Knows Why” an “intimate journey of life, pain, loss, faith, authenticity and healing told with gut- level honesty.”
Lyon has been a professional writer since 1996, and her interests have always been in community journalism and women’s fiction.
The decision to create a memoir came in 2009 after a dream she had on Christmas Eve.
“The choice was made for me,” she said. “I always knew I wanted to write a book, but I never imagined it would be this book. It’s bittersweet.
“Only God Knows Why” is her first published book.
She lives in Prior Lake with her husband, Chad; 4- yearold son, Wyatt; and angel in Heaven, Isabelle.
