Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato has contracted with LJP Waste and Recycle from North Mankato, Minn., to handle its campus refuse and recycling service needs, effective Wednesday, Nov. 28.

The new agreement will allow Minnesota State Mankato to save $25,000 annually and increase its level of recycling while getting a return on recycled commodities and reducing the amount of waste going into landfills, said Ron Fields, assistant vice president of Facilities Management at Minnesota State Mankato.

Under Minnesota State Mankato's previous contract, 96 percent of campus waste was recycled, and under its new contract with LJP, 98 percent of campus waste will be recycled.

The contract with LJP will also provide a noticeable new look on campus. New branded purple and gold hallway rolling recycling bins will be placed in campus buildings in addition to new outside compactors and recycling containers sporting new purple paint.

The branded outside containers will be visible to traffic when they are transported to the Minnesota Waste Processing Company, where waste will be burned for electricity at the Wilmarth Power Plant in Mankato.
