Dissertation Defense in Doctor of Psychology Program

Mankato, Minn. – The Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D) degree program in school psychology at Minnesota State University, Mankato, now in its fifth year as a five-year doctoral program, will host its first dissertation defense on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. in the Psychology Doctoral and Clinical Center (located in University Square Mall, Suite 6).
Julene Nolan of Mankato, Minn., will defend her dissertation, titled “International and Cross-Cultural Application of the Good Behavior Game.” Nolan’s dissertation is based on a classroom behavior intervention for elementary students that she implemented in Belize. Nolan is the advisee of Kevin Filter, associate professor in Minnesota State Mankato’s School Psychology Psy.D. Program.
While Nolan’s dissertation defense will be the program’s first, Filter said an additional three to five students will likely defend between now and April, resulting in the program’s first graduating class in May.

The Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree program in school psychology at Minnesota State Mankato prepares students to attain certification to practice as school psychologists and/or pursue other doctoral level employment such as university teaching. The program is designed to meet the doctoral–level accreditation standards of the National Association of School Psychologists. The program consists of 106 semester credits typically completed over five years.
