Feb. 19: Big Idea Speaker Series features Nate Garvis
Former Target executive to speak in Ostrander Auditorium.

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s College of Business is presenting former Target executive Nate Garvis (pictured at right), founder and president of Naked Civics, LLC, for the next installment of the Big Ideas Speaker Series on Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Centennial Student Union’s Ostrander Auditorium.
The title of Garvis’ presentation is “Social Innovation as the Future of Business and Public.” Garvis’ presentations describe using cross-sector approaches to reengineer communities for better prosperity—a concept Garvis calls “civic design.”
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served at a reception from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Centennial Student Union Hearth Lounge prior to the lecture. Parking is available in the visitor pay lot outside of the Centennial Student Union. Garvis, a former vice president for government affairs and senior public affairs officer for Target Corporation, writes that his public affairs consulting company, Naked Civics, LLC, “connects his clients to the most important ideas, people and institutions in their communities of interest.”
Garvis has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Minnesota and a law degree from the University of Oregon. He is a member of a number of academic, think-tank, business and non-profit boards throughout the country, including Allina Health, the Public Affairs Council and the College of Arts and Science at St. Thomas University. Garvis also serves as social innovator in residence at the Social Innovation Lab at Babson College.

The Big Ideas Speaker Series brings business people with transformative and alternative ideas to campus to inspire the Big Ideas of people within our own community.
