MANKATO, Minn. – Ricky Nye will open the seventeenth annual Bunny Just Piano Festival with a performance on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 7:30 pm in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.
Ricky Nye lives in Cincinnati and plays the piano, organ, and accordion. His musical style is rooted in tradition. All the various music styles he experienced through the years have helped to influence Nye’s musical style today. The Thursday performance will be an entertaining and energetic performance. Ricky Nye says, “I am looking forward to visiting the college and the Mankato area. I can’t wait to perform there.”
Ricky Nye has won many awards for best solo act and countless other awards over his performing career. His most recent award, the 2013 CEA Award for Best Blues/R&B Artist, was presented to him by CityBeat Magazine in Cincinnati, Ohio. He says, “It’s not about awards for me, I just love to play. With that said, it is really an honor to be appreciated and acknowledged by my local community and musicians.”
Ricky Nye has performed with and accompanied many great blues musicians including James Harmon and Junior Watson. Perhaps his greatest accompanying experience was at an after party for the Cincinnati Blues Festival. “Sugar Blue, the harmonica player that recorded with The Rolling Stones, was at the party. I had a chance to play a few spontaneous tunes with him. I was very proud of how well we played together,” recalls Nye.
Concert admission is $12; $11 for students with a valid MavCard. Discount tickets are available online for University students. Advance purchase is strongly encouraged. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should go to www.mnsu.edu/music.
