Center for Sport and Performance Psychology Conducts Mental Workshop with Mankato West Leaders
Center Staff worked with team captains to enhance their mental skills, creating a fun and positive environment for the student-athletes.
February 12, 2013
The Center for Sport and Performance Psychology recently opened its doors; however, the Center is taking no time making splashes in the community. Most recently, the Center worked with Mankato West High School student-athlete captains to develop their team building skills to take back to their respective teams. It is one of the many ways the Center has begun outreaching to the local community promoting the benefits of mental skills training.
The workshop was only an hour long; however, Center staff members saw tremendous strides from the Mankato West leaders. Athletes worked together on different activities to discover their strengths and weaknesses, as well to develop communication skills. MSU graduate and undergraduate students involved with the Center helped lead the activities by creating a fun and positive environment. After debriefing with Mankato West Athletic Director Ken Essay, he was extremely pleased with the workshop, and invited the Center back at a later point in the year to further improve their student-athletes’ mental strength.
As the Center continues to move forward, continue to look for various outreach programs in the Mankato community. The workshop at Mankato West proved to be a step in the right direction for the Center’s desires to help the people in the Mankatos community grow and prosper through the use of mental skills training.
