Honors Student Wins Minnesota State Foundation Grant for Research
Tatiana Soboleva won a Foundation Grant from the Undergraduate Research Center.
Tatiana Soboleva won a Foundation Grant from the Undergraduate Research Center. She has won $1000 for a summer stipend and $496 for supplies for her project, “Peer Groups and Sexual Relations among Young People in Eighteenth-Century France.” Her mentor is Chris Corley (History/Honors). She will conduct the project during the summer and next year, and present her findings at the 2014 Undergraduate Research Symposium.
The photo below is an example of the typical document Soboleva will be working on. It is a paternity suit dated 14 February 1704, petitioned by 22 year-old Claudine Cortet against Louis Fuyard, a coachman in Dijon, France. The petition reveals the information about her pregnancy and Louis Fuyard’s promise of marriage. Nevertheless, he married a different young woman. The document comes from the Archives départementales de la Côte d’Or in Dijon, France.
