College of Education Receives Accreditation

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato’s College of Education has received accreditation at the initial teacher preparation and advanced preparation levels for five years (May 2013 to fall of 2018) through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
This accreditation decision indicates that Minnesota State Mankato’s College of Education and its programs meet rigorous standards set forth by the professional education community, according to the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
Jean Haar, dean of Minnesota State Mankato’s College of Education, said the recent accreditation affirms the outstanding work the college is doing in preparing aspiring teachers for educating students in the 21st century.
“Our college is immersed in the complex work of preparing professionals to ensure student success,” said Haar. “Our successful accreditation demonstrates the high level of quality and commitment our faculty, staff and K-12 school partners have for education.”
Nearly 1,900 students are enrolled in the College of Education, including approximately 1,100 undergraduates, making education the most popular major at Minnesota State Mankato. The college also serves approximately 800 graduate level students seeking doctorate and master’s degrees as well as specialist licensure and continuing education certification.
In addition to its core academic programs, the College of Education houses award-winning centers in the areas of engaged leadership, school-university partnerships and mentoring and induction.
Founded in 1954, NCATE is recognized by the U. S. Department of Education as a specialized accrediting body for schools, colleges, and departments of education. NCATE and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) have consolidated and are now transitioning into the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
