Sept. 23: Scholar and Author Martha C. Nussbaum

Mankato, Minn. – Scholar and author Martha C. Nussbaum (pictured) will give a lecture titled “Not for Profit: Why Democracy Needs the Humanities” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23 in Centennial Student Union’s Ostrander Auditorium. A discussion will follow Nussbaum’s presentation.

The event is free and open to the public. Another presentation directed towards faculty and classes will be presented on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. in Ostrander Auditorium. Live feed links will be available for both the Sept. 23 and Sept. 24 presentations at mnsu.edu/cetl and mnsu.edu/innovation.

In her presentation, Nussbaum, the Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Philosophy at the University of Chicago, will address the following questions:

  • How do we prepare students for the increasingly diverse and ever-changing needs of society?
  • How do we better prepare students to become critical thinkers who can innovate, create and solve complex problems?
