November 15, 2013: The Mankato Department of Public Safety responded to an incident at Minnesota State University, Mankato’s McElroy Residence Community this afternoon in which a non-student received non-life threatening lacerations to his hand.

Update: November 16, 2013 Two men are in custody for their role in the assault that took place at Minnesota State University, Mankato on November 15.  Since the investigation is ongoing, their identities are not being released at this time and no additional information will be released.  During the course of the investigation, it has been confirmed that this incident was not a random act. The Mankato Department of Public Safety is not looking for any additional suspects from this incident.

November 15, 2013: The Mankato Department of Public Safety responded to an incident at Minnesota State University, Mankato’s McElroy Residence Community this afternoon in which a non-student received non-life threatening lacerations to his hand.

Information collected at this time indicates the incident was not random.

At the time the incident occurred, Minnesota State Mankato Campus Security followed campus policy and issued an alert advising all students, faculty and staff to “shelter in place,” so people would remain where they were. Parents of students also received the message.

Campus security has been working with local law enforcement and has now lifted the “shelter in place” alert.

According to the Mankato Department of Public Safety, the investigation is ongoing. Those with any information are asked to call the Mankato police at 911 or 507-387-8780.
