Honors Program Class Contributes to Mankato Magazine
Honors class project published in March 2014 issue of Mankato Magazine
Natalie Moses, a first-year Honors student at Minnesota State University, Mankato, published an article in the March 2014 issue of Mankato Magazine. The story, titled "Well-built", commemorates the late Clarence Staley and tells the story of how his passion and creativity contributed to the creation and success of Sibley Park.
The piece was the result of a class project in Dr. Heather Camp’s Honors Composition course held in the fall of 2013. The entire class contributed to the story by conducting research, interviewing some of Staley's descendants, and offering their creative input. "I was interested in finding writing situations with real audiences and purposes around which to design my assignments", says Dr. Camp. "I contacted the Mankato Magazine to see if they would be interested in working on a collaboration with Honors ENG 101. Tanner Kent, the editor of the magazine, responded to my inquiry. He had a story idea that he thought would make a great class project. The collaboration took off from there."
