Men's Hockey Wins WCHA Final Five, Makes NCAA Tournament

Mankato, Minn. -- The 15th-ranked Minnesota State University, Mankato men's hockey team downed fourth-ranked Ferris State 4-1 Saturday to claim the 2014 Western College Hockey Association Final Five in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The Mavericks (26-13-1 overall) captured their first WCHA Final Five title with the win and as a result earned the league automatic bid to the NCAA postseason tournament.
On Sunday, the NCAA announced the Mavericks were No. 3 seed in the Northeast regional in Worcester, Mass., where the Mavericks will take on UMass-Lowell at 6:30 p.m. (Central time) on Saturday, March 29. The game will not be televised live, but will be streamed live on ESPN3/WatchESPN.
The winner of the Minnesota State Mankato game against UMass-Lowell will take on either Boston College, the region's No. 1 seed, or Denver, the region's No. 4 seed, in the Northeast region championship game at 4 p.m. (Central time) on Sunday, March 30. The region championship game will be televised on ESPNU.

It's the second year in a row and third time in school history that Minnesota State Mankato has qualified for the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament. The Mavericks lost in the first round in its previous two NCAA appearances (after the 2002-03 and 2012-13 seasons).
