Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato invites the Mankato area community to join the university in a community pep rally for the Mavericks men’s hockey team at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26 at Buffalo Wild Wings in downtown Mankato, prior to Mavericks head coach Mike Hastings’ radio show, which is broadcast live at Buffalo Wild Wings from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The pep rally is intended as a way to show community support and wish the Mavericks well before they depart for Worcester, Mass., for this weekend’s NCAA Northeast regional, and to stay after the rally for the radio show. Players and other personnel will be on hand to meet the public.

Autographed posters and other giveaway items will be provided, and the Broadmoor Trophy will be on display. The trophy has been awarded to the winner of the WCHA playoff every year since 1985. This is the first year that the Mavericks have won the trophy.

The Mavericks will take on UMass-Lowell at 6:30 p.m. (Central time) on Saturday, March 29 in the opening round of the tournament. The game will not be televised live, but will be streamed live on ESPN3/WatchESPN. The game will be broadcast live on the radio by Mavericks radio partner KTOE AM-FM.

The winner will play either Boston College, the region’s No. 1 seed, or Denver, the region's No. 4 seed, in the Northeast region championship game at 4 p.m. (Central time) on Sunday, March 30. The region championship game will be televised on ESPNU and if the Mavericks are playing, will also be broadcast live on by KTOE radio in Mankato.

It’s the second year in a row and third time in school history that Minnesota State Mankato has qualified for the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament. The Mavericks lost in the first round in its previous two NCAA appearances (after the 2002-03 and 2012-13 seasons).
