Mankato, Minn. – A collaborative program involving Minnesota State University, Mankato students, Mankato police and Lincoln Park Area residents recently received an award for underage drinking prevention from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Minnesota State Mankato’s Student Health Services was awarded MADD’s Underage Drinking Prevention – Teen Influencer Award for its House Party program. House Party is an annual alcohol education event that takes place in October. The event is a mock house party complete with simulated drinking activities and alcohol-influenced behaviors by student volunteers. Students tour the mock party and, ideally, get a sobering look at the risks involved in participating in such events.

The party is followed by conversation and information about the dangers of irresponsible drinking and how students can keep themselves and friends safe.

The event is produced with the assistance of Mankato’s Department of Public Safety, the Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association and the following Minnesota State Mankato departments and organizations: Student Health Services/Health Education; Health PROs; Residential Life; Phi Delta Theta Fraternity; Residence Hall Association; Eta Sigma Gamma Health Honorary; Women’s Center; LGBT Center.

Minnesota State Mankato’s Student Health Services provides quality and affordable medical services and health education to University students to enhance their learning experience and support their academic success.
