Mankato, Minn. – An environmental group at Minnesota State University, Mankato is inviting campus and community members to provide input on an initiative to reduce the university’s carbon footprint, or greenhouse gas emissions.

The Minnesota State Mankato Environmental Committee recently received a Strategic Priorities grant from the University to hire a consultant that will lead efforts to gather data on energy use at the University and develop a climate action plan, or CAP, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

That plan kicks off with a meeting and workshop taking place from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 24 in the Centennial Student Union ballroom.

Following remarks by President Richard Davenport and explanations of key issues such as greenhouse gas emissions and best practices at reducing them, breakout groups will be formed. This will be an ideal opportunity for anyone interested to express their ideas and opinions toward the goal of moving the campus forward on sustainability.

While the event is free and open to the public, registration is requested by logging into mnsu.edu/greencampus. For more information, contact Erica Johnson at Erica.johnson@mnsu.edu or 507-389-5254.

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 15,409 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 31 state institutions.
