The Big Ideas Challenge is calling student innovators
Minnesota State University-Mankato Launches Student Venture Competition
The College of Business at Minnesota State University, Mankato, is launching a new venture competition called The Big Ideas Challenge. The mission of the competition is to provide a platform to support, celebrate and promote innovative ideas from students. The Big Ideas Challenge will be open to individuals or teams of current MNSU students from any discipline. Winners will compete for up to $10,000 in prize money, which was generously donated by College of Business Alumnus Craig Lloyd of Lloyd Companies.
The Big Ideas Challenge kicks off in November 2014. Registered students will have the opportunity to participate in a preparation workshop series, receive individual consulting services provided by the Small Business Development Center, and connect with entrepreneurs through panel presentations. they will also be invited to attend an entrepreneurial film festival in celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week and engage in the spring Entrepreneurship & Innovation Day, which features entrepreneurial lectures, networking opportunities, an innovation fair, live presentations from the top five Big Ideas Challenge finalists and an awards reception.
The competition consists of two rounds in which participants will be judged on innovaiton, feasibility and impact. First round requirements include submission of a one-page idea summary and a one- to two-minute video pitch. Final round contestants will be announced on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Five teams will advance to the final round and be paired with an expert coach that is closely related to their idea. Teams must submit an extensive plan to a judging panel no later than Monday, April 13, 2015.
Big Idea's Live! will take place in Ostrander Auditorium on May 1, 2015. The final round teams will have 10 minutes to present their idea to a panel of judges, followed by a 10-minute question and answer session. The Big Ideas Challenge will conclude with a check presentation to the winner(s) and a neetworking reception held in the MNSU Hearth Lounge.
