When lit, the bonfire stands 25 feet tall and is made up of 250 pallets of wood, courtesy of  This intense project was constructed in 2016 with the help of a student-ran organization of Construction Management students.  Last year, the Homecoming bonfire was lit by the 2016 King and Queen; Queen Desiree Frederick stated that, “it was truly a unique and incredible experience to be the first Homecoming King at MSU to light the bonfire.  I feel honored to have been given the opportunity to do so, and I’ll never forget it; especially the moment when the slack of fire fell over!”

The bonfire will take the same location behind Blakeslee Stadium again this year on Monday Oct 2 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Unlike last year, however, the bonfire will be lit by Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Prsident, Richard Davenport, and an individual chosen through a raffle drawing.  Later that evening, a 15 minute fireworks show will go off with more than 1500 shells of explosion behind the Maverick Midway.  This event will be free to both students and public.  Parking will be available in Lot 20 for individuals interested in attending this event.
