Robert Pettitt Named Distinguished Faculty Scholar
Robert Pettitt, professor in Exercise and Sport Science, has been awarded one of three 2016 Distinguished Faculty Scholars.
Robert Pettitt, a top international scholar in the field of Exercise and Sport Science, has been awarded one of three 2016 Distinguished Faculty Scholars—the University’s highest research honor. Pettitt earned the award by demonstrating a number of criteria: contributions to graduate education, the profession and field of study and the wider community.
Through his research—which has been both novel and practical—Pettitt has demonstrated the originality and innovation of his scholarship. His examination of the motion analysis of tactical athletes (i.e., police, firefighters, military) has provided safer ways for them to conduct their dangerous work. Additionally, by mentoring former graduate students in studies of high-intensity interval training using the critical power concept, his work has been widely received by multiple international Olympic committees and NIKE researchers.
Pettitt, who is also a Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine, has conducted research and published with both his own graduate students and with sport science professionals from around the world, demonstrating an international scholarly reputation. The University’s Distinguished Faculty Scholars will be honored at the 2016 Celebration of Excellence in Research and Creative Activities on April 7th, 2016.
