Lynx Head Coach Cheryl Reeve to Speak on Leadership and Coaching
Cheryl Reeve, head coach of the Minnesota Lynx, will be speaking on women’s leadership in athletics and coaching teams through adversity.
The Student Events Team, Women’s Center and Live Active Apartments are happy to welcome Minnesota Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve to the Minnesota State Mankato campus on February 27, 2017. She will be speaking in the Centennial Student Union Ballroom at 7pm.
Reeve will share her insight on women’s leadership in athletics and coaching teams through adversity. She will also be discussing her success as the head coach of the Minnesota Lynx. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask question of Coach Reeve and the ability to take pictures with the Lynx Championship trophies.
“This event is perfect for aspiring athletes of all ages, sports fans, business leaders and families. Cheryl is an amazing speaker and I am excited to see everyone walk away motivated and inspired,” said Sidney Knapper, Student Events Team Speakers and Entertainment chair.
Thanks to Live Active Apartments this event will be free to students, staff and the public. Free tickets are available for reservation online at mnsuevents.com or at the Student Activities Office.
Reeve was named head coach Dec. 8, 2009, and signed a multi-year contract extension with the club. She has completed her sixth season as Lynx head coach in 2016 and leads the team with a 28 to 6 record. She owns a career of 168 to 70 record and has the most coaching wins in franchise history.
The Lynx have complied over 155 wins over the last six regular seasons and have become the first WNBA franchise to win 27 plus games in the season three separate times. Reeves has the highest ranking percentage of the last three coaches to win more than 60 percent of their games.
She has guided the Lynx to their first championship in franchise history in 2011, as well as being named WNBA Coach of the Year. She leads the Minnesota Lynx to their best regular season record of 27 to 7 and went to lead the team to the championship games in 2013 and 2015.
Reeve was a player at La Salle and led the nationally-ranked Explorers to a 25 to 5 record in 1987 and 1988. She was named All-Metro Atlantic Conference and was an All-Big 5 selection as a senior. She holds the school record for the most games started and ranks fourth on La Salles career assist leader board.
She graduated with a degree in computer science and management information systems. As well as received both MAAC Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Award and a NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship in 1988. She has her master’s degree in business administration.
