Communications Intern Position - Descriptions & Functions

  • Monthly Meetings with First Presbyterian Church Communications Committee
  • Working with Communications Committee members for training, direction and updates.
  • Working with church Pastor and church secretary when communications opportunities arise. 
  • Electronic communication and Mass Email System Management.  Processing Mass Emails through a mass email system to all members of congregation, including ideas on artwork and creative. 
  • Social Media – Publishing of Events 
  • Website Work & Updates --- Postings.   WordPress
  • Sunday Service Projector Submissions
  • Communication of Life Events (funerals, etc.).
  • Working on and Participation in Special Projects – Internal Church Signage & More.
  • Receiving updates and information from other church committees and working with Communications Committee to determine best way to relay and deliver to church members. 
  • Correspondence and management of members contact information.
  • Updating the member information, as directly and coordinated by the Communications Committee and church staff using the Church Windows software program. 

Details & Assumptions

  • The position will occupy approximately 4-8 hours per week either at the church on at your home.
  • This in an unpaid internship that applies towards your pre-coordinated college credits.   An intern receives approximately 1 credit per 32 hours worked during any given semester
  • The intern does not have to be a church member or participate in church events; this internship is for their college resume and career experience. 
  • The position will have an easy and manageable learning curve and the intern will be monitored and trained professionally and effectively. 
  • The intern will be enriched by their experience in the oldest and most historic church in Mankato.  
  • The Communications Committee may benefit by the knowledge and expertise of the intern from a premier department at Minnesota State University Mankato.  
  • There is a required meeting once per month at the church and probably about once per week with a staff member of the church or a committee member.  
  • The hours are not set and this internship is setup around the students schedule but if there are items that are needed to be posted in a timely fashion there is enough lead time so that a student can fit it into their busy schedule.  
  • If contacted for certain events or timely posts we do require that the intern answer emails or calls within an hour or two at the most.
