April 9: Local Entrepreneur Angie Bastian to Deliver Richard Schmitz Executive Lecture
The Richard Schmitz Executive Lecture is an endowed lecture created by Richard and Mary Schmitz to encourage food entrepreneurship education in the College of Business.

Mankato, Minn. – Angie Bastian, co-founder of Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP, will be the featured speaker Monday, April 9 in an entrepreneurial-centered event titled “Live Out Loud” organized by Minnesota State University, Mankato’s College of Business.
Bastian’s presentation is from 3:30-5 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium, located in Minnesota State Mankato’s Centennial Student Union. The event is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are required due to limited seating. To RSVP, visit cob.mnsu.edu/events. Parking is available in the visitor pay lot outside of Centennial Student Union.
Bastian is the featured speaker in the 2018 Richard Schmitz Executive Lecture, an endowed lecture created by Richard and Mary Schmitz to encourage food entrepreneurship education in Minnesota State Mankato’s College of Business.
According to an event description provided by the University’s College of Business, Angie Bastian is a person who “lives a truly loud and entrepreneurial lifestyle. She went from popping sweet and salty popcorn from her garage to being acquired by one of North America’s leading branded food companies and winning multiple national honors. She and her husband, Dan Bastian, started their business in 2001 as a means to start a college fund for their children. The Bastians are known for their entrepreneurial energy and passion to empower others to follow their dreams. Angie will share their journey of starting this booming company and how she found success in doing so.”
There will be a free reception serving light refreshments after Bastian’s presentation in Centennial Student Union’s Hearth Lounge. In addition, Bastian will host a book signing for her new biography, “Angie Bastian: BOOMCHICKAPOP Boss,” a telling of her early work as a nurse to the founding of BOOMCHICKAPOP.

Richard Schmitz is a Minnesota State Mankato alumnus who completed his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1964. He has also served on the Minnesota State Mankato Foundation board of directors.
