Oct. 3: New University Plaque to be Unveiled

"Re-dedication" ceremony set for 2 p.m. on north side of Wigley Administration Center. Two additional dedication ceremonies to follow.

Mankato, Minn. – As part of its Sesquicentennial Week celebration, Minnesota State University, Mankato will unveil a new University plaque during a “re-dedication” ceremony at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 outside near the north entrance of Wigley Administration Center.

The new plaque, which will show the year of the University’s founding to be 1868, is attached over a stone-carved plaque (pictured) embedded in the building’s brick exterior that incorrectly shows the year of the University’s founding to be 1867.

The “re-dedication” ceremony, free and open to the public, will include a short program:

  • Welcome and 150th information – Paul Hustoles, professor and chair of Department of Theatre and Dance
  • Information about old plaque and why we are replacing it – Daardi Sizemore Mixon, interim dean of library services
  • Unveiling and comments – President Richard Davenport
  • Wrap-up and invitation to 3 p.m. sculpture dedication – Paul Hustoles

Following the unveiling and “re-dedication” of the Wigley Administration Center plaque, a ceremony – free and open to the public – will be held at 3 p.m. to dedicate the “Toward Tomorrow” sculpture by Thomas Riefe outside the Clinical Sciences Building (located along Warren Street).

At 6:30 p.m., a Ted Paul Theatre renovation dedication ceremony will be held in the Earley Center for Performing Arts. An invitation-only performance of “The Music Man” will follow the theatre dedication.
