Artist information provided by Minnesota State Mankato’s Department of Art:
“Mary Johnson is a sculptor whose use of reclaimed and repurposed material speaks to the interconnection between everyday actions, unseen labor, and environmental consequences. Through acts of washing, stitching, and mending, Johnson’s work renders visible how complex relations are created through the accumulation of small gestures. Since receiving her MFA from the University of Minnesota in 2007, her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows regionally and nationally. As an arts educator, she has worked for multiple non-profits around the Twin Cities, and is currently the director of education for NE Sculpture | Gallery Factory in Minneapolis.”
