President Richard Davenport to Receive Distinguished Alumni Award from University of Nebraska at Kearney

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato President Richard Davenport (pictured) will receive a distinguished alumni award from the University of Nebraska at Kearney Alumni Association during UNK homecoming festivities Oct. 4-5.
Davenport and other UNK Alumni Association award recipients will be honored Friday at a Distinguished Alumni Awards Luncheon in Kearney, Neb.
“I sincerely thank the University of Nebraska at Kearney Alumni Association for this honor,” said Davenport. “The institution provided me with an outstanding undergraduate education, and I am humbled to be recognized with my fellow distinguished alumni award recipients. I’m looking forward to being back at the University of Nebraska at Kearney this weekend.”
Davenport was appointed president of Minnesota State University, Mankato by the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities on Feb. 22, 2002. He assumed his responsibilities as the University’s 12th president on July 1, 2002.
Under Davenport’s leadership, Minnesota State Mankato has grown to become the second-largest higher education institution in the state of Minnesota.
Davenport earned a bachelor’s degree in education and speech and hearing disorders from Kearney State College in 1967. He earned a master’s degree in speech and hearing science from Colorado State University in 1969, a doctorate in higher education administration at Iowa State University in 1974, and he completed the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management Program in 1992.
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive university with 14,227 students, is part of the Minnesota State system, which includes 30 colleges and seven universities.
