2006-04-09

The MSU School of Nursing Family Nursing Research Team will present the annual President's Douglas R. Moore Faculty Research Lecture Tuesday, April 5, at the University.

This year's lecture, "Challenges of Chronic Illness: Artistic Interpretation of the Family Reintegration Process," will be at 7 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium of Centennial Student Union. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served after the five faculty members' presentations.

The MSU Family Nursing Research Team, formed in 1995, conducts research to enhance the quality of family nursing care. Team members - all registered nurses with terminal degrees - are Profs. Mary Bliesmer, Patricia Earle, Sandra K. Eggenberger, Norma Krumwiede and Sonja J. Meiers.

The Moore Lectureship celebrates excellence in research at MSU. The April 5 lecture will explain the Nursing Research Team's innovative method of uniting research findings and visual art to increase understanding of how families manage chronic illnesses.

Bliesmer is interim associate dean of the College of Allied Health and Nursing and a certified gerontological nurse practitioner. She has been a professor of nursing at MSU for 27 years. She earned a BS degree from MSU, an MPH from the University of Minnesota, and a DNSc. from Rush University-Chicago.

Earle is an associate professor of nursing who has taught at MSU since 1982. She earned a BS from MSU, and an MS and PhD. from the University of Minnesota.

Eggenberger is an associate professor of nursing and has taught at MSU since 1975. She earned a BS from MSU, an MS from the University of California, San Francisco, and a PhD. from Texas Woman's University, Denton.

Krumwiede is an associate professor of nursing who has taught at MSU since 1994. She earned a BA from Augustana College, an MN from Montana State University, an MEd. from the College of Saint Scholastica, and an EdD. from the University of South Dakota.

Meiers is director of the Nursing Graduate Program and an associate professor; she has taught at MSU since 1992. She earned a diploma from Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, Minneapolis, a BSN from the College of St. Teresa, Winona, an MSN from Winona State University, and a PhD. from the University of Minnesota.

The lecture is the 31st President's Faculty Research Lectureship, and the 18th named in honor of former MSU president Douglas R. Moore, who established the lectureship to illuminate faculty research.

Moore was president of then-Mankato State University from 1974-1978. His presidential tenure saw the transformation of Mankato State College into a university, as well as the consolidation of the Lower and Upper Campuses and a construction of new administration building.
