Minnesota State University, Mankato faculty member Jean Haar will attend the 31st Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration at Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, Penn.
The institute, from June 25 through July 21, provides intensive training in education administration for women administrators and faculty members. It prepares participants to deal with current issues in higher education, emphasizing globalization and diversity, and it allows participants to network and learn from nationally known higher education leaders.
The program focuses on four areas of instruction:
"From the knowledge and skills gained at the institute, I want to provide the leadership to further the vision, mission and goals of the Center for Engaged Leadership, the College of Education and Minnesota State University, Mankato," Haar said.
In addition to teaching, Haar directs Minnesota State Mankato's Center for Engaged Leadership within the College of Education. She started at Minnesota State Mankato in the Department of Educational Leadership in 2002, and she became director of the Center of Engaged Leadership in 2004.
She has been a high school English instructor and high school principal. She earned a doctorate in administration, curriculum and instruction from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 2002.
Minnesota State Mankato is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, which comprises 32 state universities, community colleges, technical colleges and combined community and technical colleges located on 53 campuses across the state. The system serves approximately 240,000 students annually in credit-based courses and another 130,000 in non-credit courses.
