Minnesota State Mankato graduate Susan Adams Loyd has been named vice president and general manager of WCCO-TV in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Loyd's appointment was announced July 19 by Tom Kane, president and chief executive officer, CBS Television Stations. She will oversee all operations at WCCO.

Loyd earned a master of arts degree in speech communications from Minnesota State University, Mankato in March 1991. She also has a bachelor of arts degree-speech communications from the University of Minnesota (1981).

Loyd was most recently VP/GM of Clear Channel Television's Jacksonville, Fla., duopoly (WTEV CBS 47 and WAWS FOX 30). She succeeds Ed Piette, who was recently named president and general manager of CBS's New England triopoly (Boston's WBZ and WSBK in Boston and Providence, R.I.'s WLWC).

"Susan is a very skilled and strategic local television executive who has run Clear Channel's Jacksonville duopoly for more than six years," said Kane. "She was instrumental in WTEV's switch to CBS, and has achieved tremendous growth in the market. Ed Piette left some very big shoes to fill, but I think Susan has what it takes to continue the unbelievable momentum WCCO has achieved in Minneapolis. She knows the market as well as anyone, having grown up there and spending nine years as the director of programming and research at KARE. We know she's going to do a great job for us, and we welcome her to our group."

"This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a station with such great history in Minneapolis/St. Paul and the broadcasting community at large," said Loyd. "And the recent growth it has achieved under Ed Piette is spectacular. I've spent almost a decade directly competing against WCCO, and I know it to be a first-rate operation with tremendously talented and capable employees. I'm eager to get to work and continue its fantastic growth pattern."

Loyd was most recently VP/GM of Jacksonville's WTEV CBS 47 and WAWS FOX 30, a position she held since January 2000. During this time Loyd helped to consolidate these stations' operations with seven Clear Channel radio stations and the company's outdoor billboard plant into one massive facility.

She successfully led the transition of WTEV to a CBS affiliate, previously associated with the UPN network. In December 2003, Loyd was named Clear Channel's Television Executive of the Year. Prior to Clear Channel, Loyd worked several years for Cox Broadcasting in Orlando, Fla, as the director of programming & broadcast services at WFTV (ABC) & WRDQ (Independent), and for nine years at KARE (NBC), Gannett Broadcasting, Minneapolis as director of programming & research, among other positions. Her television management career in programming, promotion and production spans almost 30 years.

She is married to Rick, and has two children, Adam and Julia.

The CBS Television Stations division is one of the largest network-owned station groups, consisting of 21 CBS stations, 15 UPN, one WB and two stations not affiliated with a network.
