The Rehabilitation Counseling program has been reaccredited for eight years by the Council on Rehabilitation Education.
The reaccreditation was announced recently following a site visit by an accreditation team, which toured laboratories and other campus facilities. The team also interviewed faculty, staff and students and obtained written evaluations from internship supervisors and employers.
"Our new accreditation is for eight years and marks a significant milestone: We have been continually accredited since 1978," said Andrew Phemister, Rehabilitation Counseling faculty member.
The Rehabilitation Counseling program prepares students for employment as counselors who provide services to individuals with disabilities. Counselors provide case management and case coordination services while working with clients.
Some 1,200 graduates have completed professional studies through the program during its 40-plus-year history. Ninety percent of program graduates work in rehabilitation counseling or a similar, closely-related field. The program has offered a master's degree since 1959.
