A pioneer of personal growth, Shakti Gawain, is the keynote speaker for Minnesota State University, Mankato's annual Women and Spirituality Conference Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7-8.

The 25th annual conference focuses on the importance of working toward greater consciousness, awareness, balance, and wholeness. Organizers say the conference is intended to provide an opportunity for dialoge on spiritual matters. Gawain will share stories of her personal journeys and activism experiences.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Women's Studies Department, The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, The Office of Institutional Diversity and The Women's Center.

Gawain, of Mill Valley, Calif., will discuss personal healing, the expression of creativity, and envisioning the future to nurture change in oneself and in the world. She is the author of several best-selling books, including Creative Visualization, Living in the Light, and The Path of Transformation, and her works have been translated to more than 30 languages. For two decades, Gawain has led workshops to help individuals in developing personal growth.
