Former College of Business Dean Dr. Morgan Thomas died Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Oak Lawn Health Care Center in Mankato. He was 89.
A long-time educator and an active community member, Thomas served as Dean of the College of Business from 1960 to 1982, when he retired.
Originally from LeMars, Iowa, Thomas attended Western Union College on a football scholarship and graduated in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1941to 1943, later obtaining his master's degree (in 1947) and his Ph.D in 1955 from the University of Iowa.
He and his wife Marjorie, also an educator, lived in Iowa until the family moved to Mankato in 1953.
During his tenure as dean, Thomas was also appointed to fill a vacancy on the Mankato City Council, and he served in that capacity from Sept. 1965 to Jan., 1967. He has also served as a board member of the United Way.He is survived by his wife; two sons and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27 at the First Presbyterian Church of Mankato, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marjorie and Morgan Thomas Scholarship at the MSU Foundation or First Presbyterian Church.
