In a story on the national implications of applied research, Minnesota State University, Mankato's Center for Automotive Research (MnCAR) is highlighted in Public Purpose, the magazine of The American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

In the story, Minnesota State University is cited as an example of an institution where applied research has far-reaching effects. The publication noted how MnCAR's research into the viability of boosting the ethanol content in petroleum from 10 to 20 percent caught the attention of Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who in turn worked with the legislature to pass a bill requiring all fuel in the state to have 20 percent ethanol by 2012.

The story also notes that U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns visited MnCAR in March, eager to see and hear of the research and work underway toward improving the efficiency of biofuels.
