Chief Wilma Mankiller on Campus Oct. 25

Native American activist Chief Wilma Mankiller will present the third annual Carol Ortman Perkins Lecture at Minnesota State University, Mankato Wednesday, Oct. 25.

During "An Evening with Chief Wilma Mankiller," she will discuss her feminist and activist experiences in the Cherokee Nation. Mankiller is the first female Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation and author of several books including Mankiller: A Chief and Her People, and The Reader's Companion to U.S. Women's History. In 1998, President Bill Clinton awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The lecture, free and open to the public, will be in the Centennial Student Union Ballroom at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Carol Ortman Perkins Lectureship Fund, the Minnesota State Mankato Women's Center, the Department of Women's Studies and student activity fees.
